January, 2009 - Tool of the Month, By Kevin Sugarman
It’s 2009 and the Engage PR Tool of the Month column has gone international. Our first winner of the year is a firefighter hailing from Japan. Unfortunately, our winner this month goes unnamed in the Reuters article describing his adventure. For the purposes of this blog entry, let’s just refer to him as Smokey.
According to Reuters, Smokey was alone at his fire station when the rest of the on-duty staffers were called away to an emergency. With all the other fire fighters out on a call, the least Smokey could do was to prepare dinner for his colleagues, who would all be famished from saving lives. So far, so good. But this is where the story goes bad for Smokey. Another emergency call came into the station. Smokey hastily left to respond to the emergency, forgetting to turn off the stove. I think everyone can guess what happened next:
It took ten fire trucks from other stations to put out the blaze.
