I only read one article in doing “research” for the December tool of the month post. After reading about a couple being denied a cake for their son’s third birthday party by a ShopRite supermarket in New Jersey, I knew I had my winner. Now, don’t rush to assume that the supermarket is the target of my distain this month. It is actually the parents that were denied a cake by the store that are the winners of the December tool of the month.
Mr. and Mrs. Campbell simply wanted the supermarket to personalize the cake for their son’s birthday with his name - Adolf Hitler Campbell. Shockingly, ShopRite passed on the opportunity to decorate little Adolph’s cake. When asked why he would give his child this name, Mr. Campbell indicated that he “wanted to give his child a name possessed by no one else in the world.” But the fun doesn’t end here for the Campbell clan – they have two other children, named JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell. These poor kids.
Fear not, this story does have a happy ending. Little Hitler’s b-day was not ruined; Wal-Mart was able to step in and personalize the cake after the family’s request was denied by ShopRite.
After that charming story, I thought I’d share some holiday cheer. Check out this story – as it turns out, not even Santa Claus is above the law.
